This project investigates the way that slang can act as a bellwether of change, with new language often emerging at the forefront of cultural movements. The short video piece incorporates a range of material including radio, film, television, photography, and music, moving chronologically from the 1920s through the early 2000s. Together these words tell a history, chronicling major historical events, rapidly shifting technology, and changing ideologies.
The piece was included in the Post-Baccalaureate Graphic Design final exhibition. For the exhibition I created a floor to ceiling typographic installation to present the video. I’ve also included a selection of pages from the final process book.
