Timelapse Portraits

Printed vellum collage with oil paint
Various sizes, all around 40 in
2013

This series of large-scale portraits I created in 2013. I found a technique of printing images and transferring them in pieces onto vellum. These pieces were then collaged together to reconstruct the image, after which I painted on top to add depth and texture. I was drawn to the patchy quality of the image transfer and the way light filters through the vellum, creating a subtle sense of illumination. The resulting portraits are blurry and atmospheric, emerging and disappearing into the background, much like memories that shift in and out of focus.
