Little Food Sculptures

I’ve always taken delight in miniatures, the way a scale shift can make the familiar feel somehow strange and new. This series of sculptures, which I later turned into a set of magnets, was especially fun to create. I enjoyed selecting which foods to sculpt, drawing inspiration from my love of cooking, eating, and generally admiring food. I loved working with the bright, playful colors of Sculpey and carefully observing and trying to translate the subtle textures, shapes, and sheens of food into clay form. I worked to strike a balance between realism and a heightened illustrative quality.
